The picture shows exactly what this adapter does: it goes from a Type 2 charging handle, through the adapter, into the NACS port on your Japanese imported Tesla (Model 3 & Model Y only). Please compare it against your own car and the charger you plan to use, so you can see whether this is the part you need. Everything we know about this adapter is set out below, and we have nothing further to add by phone or email.

Japanese imported Teslas use a NACS (SAE J3400) charging port, but nearly every AC charger in New Zealand is Type 2. That mismatch leaves a lot of owners stuck at a charger they cannot plug into. This adapter bridges the gap, so your Model 3 or Model Y charges at home and at public AC chargers without any fuss.

1. What this adapter is for

Fits: Japanese imported Tesla Model 3 and Model Y with the NACS (SAE J3400) port.
AC charging only. Connects your car to any Type 2 AC charger — your home charger, or a public AC charger where you bring your own cable.
Up to 7.4kW (single phase, 32A), enough for a full overnight top-up.
Simple plug-and-charge design — no wiring, no setup, no tools.

2. Using it with a Tesla Wall or Mobile Connector

Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector — works. Set the charger to compatibility mode first.
Tesla Gen 2 Wall Connector — not compatible. There is no workaround.
Please note: with this adapter fitted, Tesla chargers will not recognise your car as a Tesla. This is normal and expected.

3. What this adapter cannot do

No DC fast charging. This is an AC adapter only, and will not work with CCS2 DC chargers.
That includes Tesla Superchargers, ChargeNet, BP, Z Energy, Zero, We.EV, Jolt and similar CCS2 DC networks.
Quick check: a thick tethered cable with a large, heavy handle means it is a CCS2 DC charger, not AC.
Not for Japanese imported Model S or Model X.
Not for NZ new or ex-UK Teslas — those already have a CCS2 port.

4. What you need for CCS2 DC fast charging

The car’s onboard charging module must be replaced and reprogrammed.
The conversion costs roughly $2,000.
A separate CCS2 DC adapter is also required, or a port conversion at extra cost.

Does it work with a Tesla Wall Connector or Mobile Connector?
